Jamie Swenson, LCSW

Born and raised in Janesville, I am eager to give back to the community I grew up in. I completed my Bachelor Arts in Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2016, where I also completed courses in studio art. I obtained my Masters in Social Work from George Williams College in 2018. I have had experience working with children, teens, adults and families with different treatment modalities including CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy), Play Therapy, Theraplay, EMDR, and client-centered work. I am currently licensed in both Illinois and Wisconsin.

My husband and I have a blended family, so understanding family dynamics and parent work is very important to me and near to my heart. I have a passion for working with children and helping parents through the obstacles and celebrating the triumphs that come with parenting.

I specialize in working with anxiety, trauma, depression and parent-child relationships.

Our Services

Read below for a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches and types of therapy used here at Willow Way.

Playing with Toy Vehicles

Play Therapy

Play based therapy and Creative Art Expression

Play Therapy is an evidence-based practice used primarily with children and adolescents. By the use of play, children are able to express their feelings and work through problems in a way that is more suitable for their age and cognitive level.

“Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning.”

-Mr. Rogers

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR can be used for a variety of presenting concerns, but is more commonly used to help reprocess and work through traumatic memories while making new, adaptive connections in the brain through the use of rapid eye movement (similar to REM sleeping) or bilateral movement (tapping or butterfly hugs).  Jamie has completed training for EMDR parts 1 & 2.
